A Review of ai.type Keyboard Plus
It might sound silly, but I’m truly excited about my mobile phone. As you might have learned from this site, it’s an HTC Desire HD. The device’s hardware and specs are great, and the Android OS can be customized to work and respond exactly how I want. This is an ai.type Keyboard Plus Review.
To make it even better – I like to have what I consider to be the best apps, too.
ai.type Keyboard Plus is one of the best keyboards I’ve found. There are so many keyboards available that it’s necessary to try them all to find out which one works best for you.
After using ai.type Keyboard Beta, which was originally available on Google Play, I contacted ai.type to see if they would send me a copy of their full Keyboard Plus version to try out. They kindly obliged, and I’m happy to show you some screenshots, including the extra keyboard themes which come with the Plus version.
While using the Beta, I realized it didn’t include the green ‘ai.type’ theme that I’d seen and liked. Here it is below.
It looks great in landscape mode, too.
For anyone creative and wanting that personal touch, there is a custom theme available which you can change to your heart’s content. Here is the default version.
Not disliking clouds too much, I decided to add a background with some clouds and a babe.
ai.type Keyboard Plus allows you to change all sorts of colors, from buttons to text, by using the ai.type Fun Factory’s layout and color settings.
There’s even a color changer, to help you choose the color and transparency you are looking for.
Moving on more from style to functionality, here are some screenshots of the main Settings screens:
I’m not a particularly fast typist on my phone, but with this keyboard, it is easier. I like to rely on and enjoy the usual things like keypress vibration and sound. Here is a theme that makes the keys a little bigger. This is the ‘Full-size buttons’ theme.
Of course, you can go bigger too, in landscape mode.
At first, before I started playing with the settings, I wondered where the comma was. Fortunately, you can add it to the bottom row, via the ‘Bottom row keys selection’ screen.
Let’s look at some of the themes.

Here is the cool Cut, Copy & Paste option screen with the Read aloud button!
Below are some screenshots of the Keyboard Theme selector.
The attention to detail with this keyboard app is excellent. For example, even the theme preview images change to reflect your keyboard bottom row settings.
The latest version, released in December (2011), even comes with a live Christmas theme. Now you can type, jingle, and watch the snowfall.
There are many things to like about this keyboard. I like the way it looks, reacts, sounds, and allows me to type pretty quickly. The attention to detail throughout the app is excellent. We can reduce the bottom row options to make the space bar bigger.
Two thumb typing in landscape mode is possible. It has a Copy, Cut and Paste edit screen, and at the touch of a button, it even reads the words you’ve typed!
Although I’m not a great user of text prediction, I’ve noticed it is very good, and many people on Google Play say that ai. type Keyboard Plus has the best text prediction they’ve experienced.
Anyway, needless to say, I am enthusiastic enough to go on writing forever, with screenshots and other details, but appreciating I’m not getting paid for doing this and the weekends are only so long, I recommend you try the Free version or grab the Plus version from Google Play.
ai.type Keyboard Plus is now my full-time keyboard.
ai.type Keyboard Free is available (for free), and allows unlimited use of the keyboard functionality (including skins, graphics, and customization), plus 10 days of text prediction, auto-correction, and auto-text.
You can upgrade to ai.type Keyboard Plus to keep using predictive services beyond that point.
ai.type Keyboard Plus is $4.82.
