Find the cheapest prices plus price change alerts with Microsoft Shopping Assistant browser extension
In Japan where I’m currently living, we use a site called kakaku.com to find the cheapest online prices for things. I’m not much of a shopper, however, with recent family birthdays, I’ve found myself shopping outside of Japan and visiting amazon.co.uk quite a bit.
There’s a web browser extension (which I didn’t know about) called `Microsoft Shopping Assistant‘. Microsoft Shopping Assistant stays out of the way, but when you are looking at items online it subtly asks you if you’d like to find other listings of the same product, to help you find a better deal.
This is nothing groundbreaking of course, but it is a useful web browser extension for users like me, so I thought I’d write about it here, for other people who haven’t tried it either. It works with popular web browsers like Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. It comes in handy now that we are nearing the holiday shopping season.
In the example below, I did a search for a Sandisk Ultra 128GB Micro SDXC card. As you can see Microsoft Shopping Assistant asks me if I’d like to see more listings like this.
You can then choose to ignore the assistant, close it, click on the heart to favorite the listing for later or click `More like this’ to see more similar listings.
Upon clicking `More like this’, you are shown plenty of similar items you can look at or save for later:
As well as finding and favoriting items for later, you can also set the extension to let you know if the prices on your saved items change. Also, if you log in via a Facebook, Google or Microsoft account you can set the threshold of those price changes.
Microsoft Shopping Assistant is a good browser extension. It’s worth checking out.
Here’s what Microsoft has to say about it:
